Maximising App Install Efficiency in Q5

Our client is a leading UK-based online vehicle marketplace that enables users to browse and purchase used vehicles via dealership listings. The site allows users to browse and filter listings to find relevant options based on their needs.

The Challenge

Our long-term client approached us with a new challenge: Scaling installs of their app through paid media channels in the last week of 2024.

We set ambitious goals – supported by thorough forecasting of cost-per-install (CPI) and expected volume across paid social and PPC.

Our objective was to leverage “Q5” with +90% additional media spend, in order to increase App Install volume by at least 70%

Q5 refers to the post-Christmas to mid-January period identified by Meta as having lower competition and cheaper CPMs, providing a strategic opportunity for advertisers to scale efficiently.

The Strategy

Leveraging cheaper CPMs reported by Meta in the “Q5” period would result in a significant opportunity to push spend above the usual ceiling; strategic media planning was key.

Spend was reduced throughout December until the 25th using rule-based logic, reducing spend in the peak period of the month and shifting that spend to the cheaper Q5 period.

This test wasn’t without risk

- The client had never scaled to this level before, making the test ambitious

- Historically, huge spend increases lead to immediate drops in efficiency - though we hypothesised that Q5's lower delivery costs would mitigate this

- The condensed Q5 window left little room for contingency if performance didn’t meet expectations. Failure would risk missing December lead goals altogether
