The Great Fothergill Bake Off

This article was updated on: 07.02.2022

Due to the success of our past bake sale events, we decided to add a competitive twist to our most recent baking event and held our first ever ‘bake off’ event here at the Impression HQ last Friday, all in aid of Anthony Nolan.

Becky Carré, one of our PPC strategists, has set herself a triple marathon challenge this year, with the aim of raising as much money as possible for Anthony Nolan.

Becky will be running the London Marathon on April 22nd, completing the 100km Race To The Stones mid-July and will round off the year with the Chicago Marathon in October (phew!). Not only this but Becky has also completed several other races this year including both the Barcelona and Cambridge Half Marathons, not to mention the countless miles ran during training runs.

Along with our office neighbours, Distinct Recruitment, we held a Great British Bake Off style event that saw 14 bakers make some amazing cakes. The star baker won an Oscar & Rosie’s voucher and an Alchemist cocktail sharer for 4.

Throughout the morning everyone had the chance to try as many of the different cakes as they wanted and then voted for what they believed to be the star bake. The cakes included: lemon drizzle cake, Victoria sponge, chocolate ganache cake, salted caramel cheesecake, Oreo cheesecake, Mexican bean bites, cream biscuits and vegan brownies!

The standard was very high with the winning entry being the ‘Curry Puff Daddies’ – the creator and baker was Jess Hawkes. Not only did Jess’ puff daddies get eaten within an hour, but numerous people were demanding the recipe from her on the day, a huge success!

Anthony Nolan is a great charity that is very close to Becky’s heart. We raised an incredible £369 which means that a potential 37 new donors can be tested and added to the Anthony Nolan register, ready to save the life of someone in needs of a transplant.

Becky said ‘I was overwhelmed by the amount of bakers and generosity from donations on the day.  I’ve set myself some big challenges & training plans this year, but the support of those around me, including my colleague at Impression, is what will be getting me through!’
