Impression kicks-off UoN student Work Insight event

This article was updated on: 07.02.2022

On Wednesday 22nd January 2017, we welcomed students and staff from the University of Nottingham into our office to discuss digital marketing and digital careers over sandwiches and cake!

The talk was part of a ‘Work Insight’ event organised by the university’s careers and employability department, which aimed to introduce first-year students to different business environments and provide insights into different industries. Impression was the first destination of the afternoon, which also included time at Capital One and Eversheds.

Impression co-founder Tom Craig headed up the talk, explaining to students how and why Impression was formed and how it fits into the wider landscape of the Creative Quarter and SMEs in Nottingham.

He then went into more detail about the services offered at Impression and the careers available in the wider digital industries.

It was then time for some real life examples. Impression team members and University of Nottingham graduates, Lauren, Ben and Liam, then took to the floor to explain how they went from university students to digital marketers.

Digital PR executive Lauren talks about her journey from university to Impression.

They provided top tips on how to maximise the opportunities at university to forge ideas about future careers; how to pursue your passions in a way that will strengthen a job application; and how to catch the eye of potential employers using LinkedIn, or even a music video … !

The talk ended with an insight into what it takes to be an entrepreneur and a question and answer session which saw the students raise topical questions about the growing digital landscape.

It was an inspirational hour for all involved, thank you for visiting us UoN – we hope to see you again soon!
