Fortunately, the attack was not dangerous, but was simply a content injection which altered the latest blog posts of susceptible websites with the following message:\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cimg loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2961 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\u002F\u002Fimages.impression.co.uk\u002F2021\u002F05\u002FCEYjdOGp-Screen-Shot-2017-02-10-at-10.40.50.png?auto=compress%2Cformat&fit=scale&h=144&q=90&w=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"217\" \u002F>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2 id=\"so-how-did-this-happen\">So how did this happen?\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp> \u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Webmasters who failed to update their WordPress sites to 4.7.2 after the potential \u003Ca rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fblog.sucuri.net\u002F2017\u002F02\u002Fcontent-injection-vulnerability-wordpress-rest-api.html\">4.7.1 issue was announced on the 1st of Feb\u003C\u002Fa> were at risk of the injection of such content.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cimg loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2962 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\u002F\u002Fimages.impression.co.uk\u002F2021\u002F05\u002FgHUtjjMr-Unknown.png?auto=compress%2Cformat&fit=scale&h=181&q=90&w=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"271\" \u002F>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Searching “\u003Cstrong>\u003Cem>HaCkeD By MuhamadEmad” \u003C\u002Fem>\u003C\u002Fstrong>brings up a multitude of websites that are currently ranking for the term. The majority of websites have removed the injected content but examples can still be seen through Goggle’s cached screenshots of the sites.\u003Cimg loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Making sure your WordPress site is updated to the latest 4.7.2 version is a must! Although by default every site has automatic updates enabled for minor core releases and translation files, if your server isn’t properly configured, then automatic updates may not work. That’s why it’s best practice that webmasters check their WordPress versions are set to be updated. But maybe we need to stop thinking about the whole create a story, contact the editor approach, and wait for a response approach.
